Furkan Cakmak, PhD
Welcome to my personal website. My name is Furkan Cakmak. I am a political scientist. My research agenda focuses on the dynamics of political behavior, with a specific emphasis on the intersection of political psychology, communication, and computational social science in the context of American politics. Over the course of my academic career, I have developed a strong theoretical foundation and a diverse set of computational and methodological tools to explore key questions related to political advertising, affective polarization, media choice, and the emotional underpinnings of political behavior.
Beyond academia, I am also active in community engagement. To that extent, I run a YouTube channel called AmerikArti where I discuss U.S. politics for the Turkish audience.
I recently served as the Postdoctoral Fellow in Computational Social Science at Wesleyan University, working under Wesleyan Media Project and collaborate with the Quantitative Analysis Center.
I earned my PhD and MA in Political Science from Washington State University and BA in Political Science and International Relations from Bogazici University.
